CIDECT Award 2008

Cidect Awards during the ISTS12 Conference in Shanghai
 
The 12thInternational Symposium on Tubular Structures, ISTS12, took place from 8th. to 10th. October 2008 in Shanghai (www.ists12.org).
As announced, CIDECT invited the winners of the preliminary competition to come out to Shanghai, so that they could present their work there. Altogether seven students from Canada, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and China presented their entries, three for the research prize (Research Award) and three for the architecture prize (Design Award). The audience then voted on the award of places from 1 to 3.
 
Juan Carlo de Oliveira, from the University of Toronto, Canada received the first prize for the Research Award for the work ’Cast Steel Connectors for Seismic Resistant Tubular Bracing Applications’. This research has already been applied, as the two photos below show. The first place for the Design Award went to Eduardo Fernandez Lacruz, of the University of Valencia Polytechnic, Spain, with the paper: ’Design and development of a Public Leisure Centre in Valencia, Spain’.
